Wasps Legends announce Rugby Golf Classic recipient
14th April 2025

We are delighted to announce that the Rugby Golf Classic Event Grant recipient for 2025 is the fantastic Matt Hampson Foundation.
Matt was a young professional rugby player when he was paralysed in training with the England Under-21 squad in 2005. Rather than lament what he’d lost, he decided to focus on what he could still do and to ‘get busy living’. He created the Foundation to help others in similar circumstances. The Matt Hampson Foundation provides physical and emotional support to young people following life-changing injury in sporting activity.
The grant funds from the Rugby Golf Classic will be put towards a Body Weight Support system to assist the Foundation’s work with beneficiaries with spinal injuries. The system supports the upper half of the body while reducing bodyweight during standing and walking exercise, allowing users to spend more time standing which research shows is vital in recovery of movement after injury. It also allows practice of sit-to-stand movements, walking up and down steps and running, and can be used to assist with strength, mobility, balance and transfer work which aids a beneficiary’s independence.
The Matt Hampson Foundation are hugely deserving recipients of this grant, and we look forward to seeing them continue their exceptional work, changing young people’s lives. To view their latest charity video, please see the video below:
